Rites of Passage

I’ve learned that ancient cultures always had great manhood “Rituals of Passage”. The Jews have the Bar Mitzvah. Australian Aboriginal Tribes had circumcision. African Tribes sent their boys into the wilderness alone.

It was that point in time where a Father knew that he had to show his son what it took to be a man. That meant countless hours teaching their boys how to hunt boar, or saw wood, shape iron, throw a spear, fight for what they loved.

Today, we no longer have these Rites of passage. Why? Because we don’t know what a real man is anymore. Society has become so ugly and complicated that so many evils get in the way and the once thin gap between grown up and mature is growing bigger and bigger. Some guys think they can prove their manhood by getting drunk or picking a fight.

Back then Fathers had time to teach their kids with care. Nowadays coz daddy needs a corporate job, we get shipped off to private schools where we have no respect for our teachers (Mr. Lim, Mrs. Duque, Gary Deviles) and education ends with numbers and books.

That leaves us unsettled.
and bored

So now we tune in to TV. The black box that showcases all the drug-using, bad-mouthing celebrities and makes 'em look like heroes. Let's all grow up to be S.N. double O P. D.O. double G and smoke weed.

Because we don’t know what a real man is, many boys, for most of their teen-age life, lose their way. For many years, they get stuck in limbo -Peewee hell for the "egoys" and the wannabe forever kids. They don’t know who they are or where they should go.

Do Justice to the things daddy taught you

Here's a bonus trait: A real man keeps it simple. If you know big words, use them rarely and appropriately, at least in front of morons who think they're smarter than you. Lesson over.

Watch your backs and keep your noses clean.
