All we wanted to do was give 'em some books

All my parents wanted to do was help. All they wanted to give were books, notebooks, pencils and the sort. In Barotac, my father's hometown, I guess politics is far more superior than common sense. The mayor looks over his shoulder's too many times in the wake that his biggest fear may come true, that is, my father will oppose him and run for mayor himself.

My father made the decision months ago to avoid running for any position. He despises politics and the dirt you shake hands with in the office. So instead, he decides to select five schools from his hometown and develop them. "Development" here means repairs and improvement in infrastructure, training for teachers and making sure that all the students are equipped and nourished enough to attend a class. In fear of this being a drive to my father's candidacy, the present mayor fucked up these plans, by constantly reshuffling the teachers so that the training would be rendered useless to the selected schools. In his address to my parents, he said that Barotac shall take no part in this.

I hate it how people fear the mayor. Each of his little minions pulling strings hoping that they'd get a cut, hoping that he won't screw them over. Ask any person out there on whether or not there is something wrong with what my parents are doing. Clean hearts shall give a unanimous decision. The scared and the guilty shall tweak it.

That's another reason why our country will never develop.
Barotac is too small a town for this kind of corruption.
It's not even in Manila.
It's not even fully urbanized.
A town of farmers and fishermen already feeling whip of power hungry families.
